8bitmime

Katip
ASSP version 2.5.5(16366) - win2k8-r2
hMailServer <-> ASSP

this is logged very frequently:
"ERROR: CCMail destination does not support required 8BITMIME - CCMail canceled"

what does it mean exactly? as far as i know HMS supports 8bitmime and actual recipient does receive the email, but copy-ham fails.
(sendHamInbound is set)
(enable8BITMIME on/off makes no difference)

TIA
Katip

Re: 8bitmime

Your MTA does not offer '8BITMIME' in the EHLO reply.

Re: 8bitmime

Katip
yes, it doesn't advertise it (not a bug btw).
but how does actual recipient receives the mail but copy-mail not? they are both on same MTA.

In proxy mode, assp does not care about the 8bitmime extension (except 'enable8BITMIME' is disabled but '8BITMIME' used by the peer) - the MTA has to handle this.
But assp will set the internal '8bitmime' flag, if the mail contains NONASCII characters (transfer encoding 8bit for example).
In client mode (resend,CC.. , ...) assp knows, that the original mail contains NONASCII characters. Than assp uses EHLO and checks, if the MTA announces the 8BITMIME extension.
If required but not announced, assp uses the hard way, if it is working as a client - no delivery.

Re: 8bitmime

Thomas Eckardt/eck
The next release will have a hidden option to ignore this issue. I just make some tests. Or simply enable the extension at your MTA.
