ASSP using too much RAM

Nick Bright
I'm having trouble with ASSP using too much memory on my cPanel server,
using ASSP Deluxe with ASSP.

root@cpanel [~]# ps aux | grep assp
USER       PID %CPU %MEM    VSZ   RSS TTY      STAT START   TIME COMMAND
root     58813 13.4 75.9 34152864 18678440 ?   R<   Jan06 1407:55
/usr/bin/perl /usr/local/assp/assp.pl

The RAM usage of the ASSP processes reaches 35GB or higher, causing the
machine to go to swap; and the server to randomly kill other processes
to satiate the RAM demands of ASSP. Obviously, this can be a problem -
especially when httpd goes up on the chopping block!

I've already written a script to restart ASSP daily at 3AM, but even
with that, I'm still occasionally having to manually restart the process
when my status monitors start throwing a fit about services not responding.

Does anybody have any configuration tips on reducing the memory
footprint of ASSP?

Relevant information:

CentOS 6.7, cPanel/WHM 11.52.2 build 1
ASSP 1.9.9 (13345) (UI says this is current)

is your ASSP using a database (e.g. MySQL) as the backend to store its
stuff, or it's using flat files ? In the latter case, consider setting
up a MySQL instance and migrating ASSP to use a DB

????????????????????????

looking at http://sourceforge.net/projects/assp/ I can see that ASSP V1 is
no longer maintained for one year now. The latest available V1 for
download is ASSP_1.10.1_15022
