Strange setup

Internet Chicago Staff
I have 10 mx servers for multiple domains the domains are on two servers
each, after testing ASSP I really would like to implement it, however is
there a way to have the ASSP server bind to a particular IP on the host
server allowing me to run multiple copies.

Thanks in advance

Re: Strange setup

Micheal Espinola Jr
Sure.

You'll want to (at least) customize the destination and listen IP and
Port settings under the basic Network Setup for each instance you run.

Re: Strange setup

Internet Chicago Staff
I was able to setup 2 instances answering on two ip's to two different mail
servers so far, do you think I'll run into problems using the same datafiles
? I'm hoping to setup 10 instances (the server I'm using is a quad processor
and all preliminary testing shows it can handle this app without blinking)

Currently there are only two files that are different assp.pl and assp.cfg
All is running okay as a service on win2k

Re: Strange setup

Internet Chicago Staff
Have to make another assp.pl to run another instance and changed it to point
to the second config file, since I stayed in the original directory to use
the same spam database.

Put another box in front of each of your mail servers and configure each box
to accept for all your domains.

Pros - protects all domains
doesn't add load to the existing mail server
        less spam to end users.

Cons - more hardware
        more complexity
        more space/power/network needed.

RE: Strange setup

Lars Troen

Hi!
I think your approach is wrong. I have many domains and mail servers as
well and I've solved this by having a postfix mail server installed on
the same host as assp. Postfix receives the mail from assp and routes it
to the correct mail server. If your load is too high for one server you
can setup multiple assp servers sharing the same database directories
using NFS or something similar.

God luck!

Lars

Actually I already do have 2 servers(postfix) for each of my "real" mail
servers, though I'm not happy with the reliability of spamassassin. So now
I'm changing to 1 assp proxy for each of my postifx servers.  I just can't
invest more servers to do it.  I'm using a Quad Xeon with 8 gig of ram, and
have successfully setup for instances of assp server.  It seems to be
running fine, I've got all four running as services, with 4 different logs,
sharing the same spam database.

Unless someone knows of an actual bug that I might encounter, I think it's
working well. (no spam in box today)
