You can have only one listener at a time oon an IP:PORT

My suggestion is the following

* Inbound

sender
|
|
ASSP: 25, 587
|
|
MailEnable: 8025

* OutBound

MailEnable
|
|
ASSP: 8025 (relayport - just local)
|
|
IIS SMTP: 9025 (just local)
|
|
destination

the idea is that the inbound mail flows through ASSP to the backend
MailEnable server where it's then distributed as needed; the outbound
mail, originated from MailEnable is sent to ASSP which then forwards it
to the IIS SMTP acting as the outbound mail router; you'll probably
need to proper tweak thing, but the above, once configured will work
quite well; oh and ensure to disable authentication on port 25 (at
least for plain vanilla, non-SSL connections and *force* it on port
587) and to properly configure the IIS SMTP to route bounces/errors

What else... oh, yeah, if you feel ok with MailEnable then, good for
you, but personally, I think that hMailServer is better than ME, also
since it supports a webmail client (RoundCube) which has addons which
allow to integrate it quite strictly with hMailServer

Re: assp settings new installation

K Post
Also note that IIS SMTP can't be used to relay out messages using TLS.
Unfortunately, with IIS SMTP it's all or nothing, and since many SMTP
servers don't use TLS, you can't enable it at all.

I'd consider a second hMailServer as the outbound relay.

ASSP is listening on all three ports as defined in listenport section listenport - 25|587|127.0.0.1:2525.
Not sure if there is need to put the alternate ports in (listenPort2) section.

Re: assp settings new installation

Colin
Look further back in the logs. The last activity maybe threads cleaning up
but you'll generally find earlier messages when the shut down was initiated.

Search specifically for "shutdown". Failing that check your server logs for
errors outside the application.

Look further back in the logs. The last activity maybe threads cleaning up
but you'll generally find earlier messages when the shut down was initiated.

Search specifically for "shutdown". Failing that check your server logs for
errors outside the application.

Re: assp settings new installation

Scott MacLean-4
My installation has always done this. If you run it in console mode (or
look at your event log), I think you'll find that like mine, the
Perl.exe process is crashing. When it does, ASSP never gets the
opportunity to log anything, because the Perl engine has already quit.

I have never found a smoking gun as to the cause, nor a solution - I
just have my service set to restart when it terminates. It's getting
close to the time where I will be replacing this mail server and
building a new one, I'll use a newer version of Perl to see what effect
that has (I'm now using 5.20.1).

Re: assp settings new installation

Thomas Eckardt/eck
Perl crashes are most times caused by:

- 'out of memory' conditions on 32Bit Perl
- wrong designed regular expressions
- destroyed BerkeleyDB ENV files
- outdated perl modules

My installation has always done this. If you run it in console mode (or
look at your event log), I think you'll find that like mine, the
Perl.exe process is crashing. When it does, ASSP never gets the
opportunity to log anything, because the Perl engine has already quit.

I have never found a smoking gun as to the cause, nor a solution - I
just have my service set to restart when it terminates. It's getting
close to the time where I will be replacing this mail server and
building a new one, I'll use a newer version of Perl to see what effect
that has (I'm now using 5.20.1).

Re: assp settings new installation

Any recommended perl version for windows environment , which isn't causing any crashes .?

Currently using perl_5.20.2__4-assp.zip

My installation has always done this. If you run it in console mode (or
look at your event log), I think you'll find that like mine, the
Perl.exe process is crashing. When it does, ASSP never gets the
opportunity to log anything, because the Perl engine has already quit.

I have never found a smoking gun as to the cause, nor a solution - I
just have my service set to restart when it terminates. It's getting
close to the time where I will be replacing this mail server and
building a new one, I'll use a newer version of Perl to see what effect
that has (I'm now using 5.20.1).
