spamdb & multi server

Andy Knuts
I need to setup ASSP on multiple servers. Is there a way to sync. the spamdb on all servers?
I can use MySQL for the spamdb database and maybe use mysql replication (master-master).
But I'm not sure ASSP supports such a setup at all?

If it doesn't support such a setup it means every ASSP installation will have it's own spamdb database and that's going to be difficult for training ...

Re: spamdb & multi server

Rob Ellsworth
I would think you could have each ASSP server point to the same MySQL DB
for the spamDB.

RTMF !!

This is a slave of more then one assp-computers accessing the same
database (mysqlSlaveMode)

If you are running more then one assp-computers accessing the same or
(better because of SPOF) a bidirectional replicated database
this is a slave-assp and no database maintenance will be done by this one!
Maintenance should only be done by the first assp - the master!
Maintenance for file based caches and lists will always be done!

Hi Thomas,

How is this setup supposed to work? If only one of the ASSP computers is going to do database maintenance it's not using the spam/notspam folders on the other ASSP computers, right?
Or do I need to implement some kind of file synchronization myself?

So a filesync method + bidir. replicated database is what I need?

Kind regards,
Andy

Re: spamdb & multi server

Thomas Eckardt/eck
It's your part to sync/share databases and folders.

I replicate my databases over an openvpn connection (MySQL master<->master
mode). I use a one way rsync (slave->master) for the spam, notspam and
errors folder.
For spam and notspam the rsync runs befor the rebuild starts at the
master.
For the errors folder, rsync runs every five minutes.

HI,

You just need a mysql master master replication, all other config stuff is directly synced over assp itself.

Re: spamdb & multi server

One more question about this:

How does spam reporting work in a multi server setup?

Will the master ASSP installation generate reports and the slaves won't do any reporting at all?
If so, how does the master know which emails on the slaves were blocked for which reason?

We need to sync the spam/notspam/discarded folders anyway, for spamdb rebuilding. So the master is able to find the emails there.
But do we need to sync the logs files too, or how does ASSP find out which email is blocked for whatever reason when it's generating a report?

Thanks

Re: spamdb & multi server

Thomas Eckardt/eck
Reports are done by every assp instance separately - requests are forwared
to the right instance (needs configuration). So, don't sync log files.
The rebuildspamdb task should only run on the master.

>We need to sync the spam/notspam/discarded folders anyway, for spamdb
rebuilding.

Yes.
My assp instances are doing a one way rsync (slave->master) once a day
(before the rebuild) for spam and notspam. 'errors/notspam'  and
'errors/spam' are synced every 5 minutes the same one way.
